It Is Easy Being Green

Every time I take the trash out, I imagine my neighbors doing the same, then the city, then state, then country, then world – and think… wow, where does it all go? Where does something go when you throw it away?

Where is away? Don’t you wish you didn’t throw anything away? You just used it all or re-used it all… Are our great grandkids going to be living on piles of tires or inside homes made of plastic bags? I think it’s easy to recycle. You’re putting a used can or plastic bottle into a container anyway – might as well be one that is going to a recycling center. Is it because there is so much abundance in our country that we think – what the heck, I’ll just buy another one? I’m just one person – what harm can I do? Or are we just too lazy to buy a separate tub and put it out on the curb? What if everyone recycled? What if everyone brought a canvas bag to the grocery store instead of using those plastic bags? What if you bought a Tupperware container that you could use over and over instead of a sandwich bag that you use once? It’s 2008 and when I buy a duffle bag at a sports store they put it in a bag. Uh, excuse me, this is a bag with handles and everything. Being green isn’t only about riding your bike to work and stopping all industrial emissions – sometimes it’s just plain common sense.
