Why Should I Read Details Magazine?

The average 30 minute sitcom is comprised of 22 minutes of content (or signal) and 8 minutes of noise (or advertising). That’s 73% show and 27% dough (ahem, for the network). I bet Details realizes how little op/ed content they actually have in their magazine. Maybe the only reason their magazine exists is to run the latest fashion ads – that’s ok, I get that. I subscribe to Details for that very reason. I want to see the hippest fashion ads. I don’t think I’ve ever read an article in there (much less found one among the ads).

Details does look good on a coffee table though – it says to others who see it “wow, this person is on the cusp of fashion” (even when I’m not). Maybe that’s what Details banks on. The way it positions those who hold it. But how much longer will advertisers keep it going?
